Maroon 5 first hit the pop charts in 2002. A decade later they are one of the world's top pop groups. These are their 10 best hit songs.
1. "Moves Like Jagger" featuring Christina Aguilera (2011)
Early in 2011 sales of the album Hands All Over were disappointing, and it looked like Maroon 5's commercial prospects were on the wane. Lead vocalist Adam Levine signed up to be a mentor on the new music competition show The Voice. Few observers predicted the show would become a major hit. In the wake of the show's success the band recorded a new single "Moves Like Jagger" with fellow mentor Christina Aguilera. The result was an irresistibly catchy #1 pop hit single that became the biggest hit of the group's career to date only to be eclipsed a year later.
2. "This Love" (2004)
"This Love" is arguably the song that turned Maroon 5 into pop stars. It was the second single from Songs About Jane. Adam Levine says that it was written at one of the "most emotionally trying times" of his life following a break-up. The accompanying music video generated controversy over steamy scenes with Adam Levine and his then girlfriend, model Kelly McKee. Maroon 5 won their first Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance By a Duo Or Group With Vocal for "This Love." The song reached #5 on the Billboard Hot 100 becoming the group's first top 10 hit.
3. "Misery" (2010)
Maroon 5 worked with legendary rock producer Robert John "Mutt" Lange on their fourth studio album Hands All Over. The result was one of their best albums led by this loose-limbed, catchy single. The group were nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance By a Duo Or Group With Vocal for the song. "Misery" topped the adult pop radio chart and hit the top 5 on the dance chart.
4. "One More Night" (2012)
Maroon 5 adopted a sun splashed reggae beat here, and the result was the group's biggest pop hit. "One More Night" spent nine weeks at #1 on theBillboard Hot 100 and sold over four million copies. The accompanying music video was directed by film director Peter Berg and features Adam Levine as a boxer whose work conflicts with his home life.
5. "Wake Up Call" (2007)
The catchy hit "Wake Up Call" is particularly memorable for the violent lyrical response to an episode of cheating in a relationship. The tale of shooting a man dead was adapted into a highly cinematic accompanying music video. "Wake Up Call" only peaked at #19 on the Billboard Hot 100 but remains one of the group's most instantly compelling songs.
6. "Harder To Breathe" (2002)
Maroon 5 wrote "Harder to Breathe" in the midst of frustration with their record label. The group believed they had enough material for their debut album, but the label pushed them to write more. The frustration is evident in the agitated rock feel of the song, but it is also a key part of the song's success. "Harder To Breathe" was the first single released from the album Songs About Jane and brought the group their first hit peaking inside the top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100.
7. "Makes Me Wonder" (2007)
Maroon 5 introduced their album It Won't Be Soon Before Long with the single "Makes Me Wonder." It became the band's first #1 pop hit single and won a Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance By a Duo Or Group With Vocal. The song incorporates a funkier feel in an effort to make the band sound more urban and contemporary.
